What is the Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan?
It is the highest award conferred by the people of Quezon Province to its outstanding citizens for exceptional and meritorious chievements rendered to the people ofQuezon by virtue ofProvincial Board Resolution No.612 dated August 5, 1970.

What is the rationale for the Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan?
The Provincial Board of Quezon conceived the Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan through Resolution No.612 in 1970 to edify, enhance, and perpetuate the sterling virtues of President Manuel L. Quezon by honoring the distinguished achievements of the citizens of Quezon who project the qualities and virtues of the late president, regardless of class, creed, and religion. The annual awards hope to inspire the
public to contribute to the building of a just, humane and better society to every Filipino.

What are the categories of the Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan?
The Awards are of two categories as provided for in Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No.280, dated July 18, 1982, as follows:

  1. The Life Achievement Award or the Gintong Medalya ng Karangalan, given to only the deserving individual who meets the
    stringent requirements and criteria, and
  2. The Special Achievement Award or the Medalya ng Karangalan, given to not more than ten awardees who meet the rigid criteria.

Who are eligible for the Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan?

1. Life Achievement Award ( Gintong Medalya ng Karangalan)
a. Any individual who (a) was born and resided in Quezon for a minimum of five years as an adult (18 years ofage or over); (b) ifnot born in Quezon married a Quezonian, and must have a resided in Quezon for at least ten years as an adult, and ( c ) if not born in Quezon, nor married to a Quezonian, must have resided in Quezon for a least fifteen years as an individual must have contributed to the
promotion of the interest and welfare of the people of Quezon Province.

b. The individual must have manifested dedication to duty and dynamic leadership.

c. The life of the individual must project the following qualities and virtues of the late President Manuel L. Quezon:
c1. concern for the common tao and the promotion of social justice
c2. championing of civil liberties
c3. nationalism
c4. civic conciousness
c5. vision
c6. integrity (wholeness ofperson)
c7. innovativeness
c8. love and concern for the family, and
c9. love for culture (music and the arts)

2. Special Achievement Award (Medalya ng Karangalan)

a. Any individual who (a) was born in Quezon; (b) if not born in Quezon, married a Quezonian and must have resided in Quezon for at least eight years, and ( c ) if not born in Quezon, nor married to a Quezonian, must have resided in Quezon for at least ten years
is eligible for the award.

b. The individual must have an outstanding achievement in a special field of endeavor contributing to the promotion of the interest and welfare of and bringing pride to the people of Quezon Province.

c. The life of the individual must not negate the sterling qualities and virtues of the late President Manuel L. Quezon.

How may an individual may be nominated for the Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan?
An individual may be nominated in two ways:
( a) he may be nominated by an individual who solicits the endorsement of a social, civic, religious, government, non-government, or people's organi- zation or group, or (b) he may be nominated by a social, civic, religious, government, non-government, or people's organization or group.
The nominator accomplishes and signs the prescribed nomination and if possible, signed by the nominee signifying that the latter accepts the nomination and confirms his/her attendance to personally receive the award during the Quezon Day commemorative rites.

Who confers the Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan?
The people and officialdom of the Province of Quezon confer the awards. For this purpose, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed Resolution No.194 on June 10, 1985 creating the Quezon Day Awards Committee and empowering the Provincial Governor
to appoint the members of the Committee who shall be composed of a chairperson and thirteen members.
The chairperson shall serve for three years. Of the thirteen members, three shall serve for three years, four for two years, and six for one year, all without compensation, including the chairperson.

When is the Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan given?
The Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan is given annually on August 19, the birth anniversary of the late President Manuel L. Quezon.

In what forms is the Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan given?
The Life Achievement Awardee shall receive a solid gold medal and plaque while each of the Special Achievement Awardees shall receive a gold-plated medal and a plaque where his/her achievements are etched.

When is the deadline for nominations?
The deadline for nominations shall not be later than July 1 of every year, or 49 days before the Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan Awards rites which is August 19 of every year.

Nomination forms and other information may be obtained at the Public Affairs and Information Assistance Division, Office of the Provincial Governor, Provincial Capitol ofQuezon, Lucena City or from any member of the Quezon Day Awards Committee.
