Youth and Sports

The development of the province's young population is one of the priority programs of the present administration. Sports development program is one area by which the youth can benefit most.

The Department of Education, Culture and Sports has developed a systematic approach of developing new talents in sports. Most of its elementary and secondary school levels have been subsequently organizing sports activities and competition among students to harness their talents.

The provincial government on its part has appointed a sports coordinator as overseer of different sports competition among out-of-school youth. Many sports competitions had been implemented and talents coming from the competition are of national caliber. They have been selected to represent the province in various regional and national competitions. The Governor's Cup discovered sports protégées in Boxing, Chess, Basketball, Track and Field, Bowling and Softball.

A huge amount of money is at present earmarked to build the Quezon Convention Center and will house different sporting events. An estimated 10,000 seaters, the center will be finished by 2002. This is a multi-purpose center for convention and sports. The center is now being used for several provincial government activities, NGOs activities and other sponsored activities by civic and religious organizations.
