With a functional literacy rate of 96.5%, the province is one among with the highest literacy rate. This can be attributed to the many private and public schools around the province, the quality of teaching personnel and methods of teaching applied.
The education sector rank as a priority program of the present administration. It is in this situation that the province sees to it that education is being given enough funds and resources. Incentives to administrative and teaching personnel are among some means that show that education is a priority of the province.
For the public elementary schools, there are 802 public elementary schools and 76 private elementary schools and 16 purely private preschools or a total of 894 schools.
There are 141 secondary public schools and 67 private secondary schools.
Vocational/Technical schools accounted for 30. Prominent schools for this category are the Quezon National Agricultural School, AMA, STI, Computech and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
College education is mostly concentrated in Lucena City with 8 colleges and a total of 16 in the province. Most notable college education for government-run institution are the Southern Luzon Polytechnic College (SLPC) in Lucban, Quezon, and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Lopez and Unisan. Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation in Lucena City is the most popular university with three (3) branches located in Candelaria, Catanauan and Sampaloc.
