15 year-old Christine Loui V. Araña of Quezon Science High School (QSHS) claimed second place after besting choice contestants in the National Science Quest’s Essay Writing category, last February 10-12, 2014 at Teacher’s Camp, Baguio City.
Spearheaded by the Association of Science Educators of the Philippines (ASEP), the National Science Quest is bent on promoting academic excellence in science and technology.
Asked about her reaction upon being called, CALABARZON’s representative and lone victor said that the win surprised her.
The category’s topic brought into focus the negative effects of climate change and what can be done to combat its negative effects – testing the awareness and creativity of the young minds that participated in the contest.
Araña is the editor-in-chief of Ang Velocity, the official publication of QSHS – the premiere science hub which offers specialized curriculum in Mathematics and Science to Quezon Province’s future scientists and leaders for free. (Quezon PIO)
