The Philippine Commission on Women and the Canadian Government conferred several awards acknowledging the Provincial Government of Quezon’s gender-responsive projects and programs, under the guidance of the Provincial Gender and Development Office.

The recognitions were conferred at the Crown Plaza hotel in Mandaluyong City last Sept. 19-20, 2013 during the National Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Forum. Quezon Province received the following: 2 plaques - Extra Mile Award, WEE Responsive LGU Partner; 5 citations - Outstanding WEE Champion, Outstanding WEE Partnership, WEE Responsive Policy, WEE Responsive Programs and Services, Functional WEE Structures and Systems

The forum was in connection with the recent implementation deadline of the five-year Gender-Responsive Economic Actions for the Transformation of Women Project (GREAT Women Project), funded by the Canadian Government.

According to Ofelia Palayan, PGAD Focal Person, Quezon won its plaques and certificates through the support given by the provincial government, led by Quezon Governor David “JayJay” C. Suarez.

The province received the Extra Mile Award as the only province who went past the 3-town target, and instead made the GREAT Women Project available to 15 municipalities.

Quezon Province is the first local government in Philippines to formally establish a Gender and Development Office. (Quezon PIO)
