The provincial government and the Provincial Chest Clinic in particular, continue to take steps to combat tuberculosis in Quezon, according to Dr. Erlinda Plotria last June 24, 2013 during the regular Monday flag raising ceremony in front of the Old Capitol Building.
Dr. Plotria, head of Provincial Chest Clinic said, the province’s programs against the disease are given much strength through working with IMPACT, or Innovations and Multisectoral Partnerships to Achieve Control of TB, which is supported by USAID’s tuberculosis program and PHILCAT.
Last year, Quezon’s performance placed second to Rizal in terms of action taken to neutralize the incidence of tuberculosis. Dr. Plotria said that the province targets to be number one not only in CALABARZON, but in the whole country, which she believes is possible under the leadership of Governor David Suarez.
Dr. Plotria advised Quezonians to not hesitate and get themselves checked-up if they find themselves having symptoms of the contagious disease. She assured those present that medicine for tuberculosis is available in the chest clinic. Barangay health workers are also receiving training regarding the proper way to handle patients approaching them for treatment or consultation, so infected residents can also come to them for assistance.(Quezon PIO)
