Sariaya, Quezon Celebrates Women’s Month

Female residents from the 13 barangays of Sariaya, Quezon joined together to celebrate Women’s Month this March 8, 2013 at the Sariaya Sports Complex. The said event with the theme “Kababaihan Gabay sa Pagtahak sa Tuwid na Daan” was headed by the Municipal Gender and Development Council, along with Sariaya Women’s Federation and Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) Sariaya.

3rd District Congressman Danilo Suarez attended the event to represent Quezon’s first lady and KALIPI Quezon President, Mrs. Ana Villaraza-Suarez.

According to Cong. Suarez, women have come a long way in history. Now, they share the same rights as men and can perform same tasks as them without fear of social stigma. He also quoted the adage that behind a successful man is a woman who supports him.

Mrs.  Rowena Masilang, the wife of Sariaya Mayor Boyet Masilang, stressed the importance of giving the women’s sector stronger voice and firmer hold in society. Her husband, Mayor Masilang continues to aid the town’s female sector by providing livelihood projects and constructing a livelihood center.

A representative from the Women and Children Protection Desk of Sariaya PNP explained womens’ rights and the laws that protect them. They are also encouraged not to be afraid and to report immediately cases of abuse.

Present during the event were Board Member Bong Talabong, former Congresswoman Aleta Suarez, former Board Member Liza Alvarez, former Lucena Mayor Barbara Ruby Talaga, members of the Sariaya municipal council, as well as the town’s barangay captains. (Quezon PIO)
