To better prepare for emergencies and natural disasters, Governor David C. Suarez gave 65 netbooks with broadband stick internet access to the first batch of barangays listed under Quezon’s Hazard Zone.

The distribution of the said portable computers were led by Webster Letargo – Provincial Governor’s Office Chief of Staff, Engr. Rowell Radovan – Provincial General Services Officer, Janet G. Buelo – Provincial Information Officer, Dr. Henry Buzar – Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer, and Antonio T. Carlos – Provincial Information Communication and Technology Officer last December 7, 2012 at Quezon Science High School, Tayabas City.

The program, with the title Delivering Access to Vital Information on Disasters (DAVID) aims to equip barangay officials with necessary knowledge to use the netbooks as a means of communication and information during times of calamity, especially in far-flung areas within Quezon, to hasten action and minimize loss of life and property.

The Barangay Captains and secretaries of the barangays which received the netbooks underwent a whole-day basic orientation seminar on disaster communication system. Bong Mata of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council discussed how they can use the computers to access offices and agencies that can aid them during emergencies.

With the new netbooks, barangays could also make and submit barangay reports, activity plans faster and easier – helping the Provincial Government respond to their requests quicker, and providing links to make communication easier within the province through the use of Internet.(Quezon PIO)
