To increase the number of cows and carabaos in Quezon, the Office of the Provincial Veterinariantook the initiative to launch an Artificial Insemination program, which was commended by the Philippine Carabao Center.

From the data collated since January until October 2012, a total of 1,976 carabaos and 437 cows from all over the province successfully underwent the process. Last 2011, Quezon was the leading province in bovine artificial insemination in Regions IV and V.

To answer the issue of the dwindling cattle production which poses a big problem for farmers and the food sector, Artificial Insemination was proposed and successfully implemented by the OPV.

Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Gerald Montierro, with support from the Provincial Government, also set up an Animal Hospital which will cater to pets as well as livestock within Quezon. The building and equipment needed to run the hospital are already ready and available, but they are still in need of Medical Technologists before the said Animal Hospital can be up and running.(QUEZON PIO)
