The Provincial Government’s tax collection percentages skyrocket this year after the Provincial Treasurer’s Officeand Quezon Gov. David “Jayjay” C. Suarez’s successful campaign to collect Real Property Tax (RPT). A total amount of Php 108.1 Million was collected, where half would be allotted for the Special Education Fund which will be used to develop Quezon’s education sector, meaning more complete classrooms and school facilities, as well as more competent and able teachers.

To attract the Quezonians to pay their taxes, a new Starex van and 10 tricycles were given away in a raffle draw last October 29, 2012 at the Quezon Convention Center. Gov. Suarezadded to the set of prizes Php 100,000.00, which will be divided among 10 lucky winners from the grand draw.

According to Provincial Treasurer Officer Rosario Marilou Uy,the Provincial Government’s collection of RPT increased by 26.39% from last year’s 4.47% or Php 65.3 Million. She also added that that Gov. Suarez’s initiative to encourage Quezonians to pay their taxes inspires them to work harder and improve their service.

In the message of Bureau of Local Government Finance Regional Director Eduardo Del Rosario, he said that one of the main reasons why the current administration is enjoying high tax collection rates is because the people of Quezon can tangibly feel where the money they use to pay their taxes go to through the responsive projects and programs developed by Gov. Suarez and the Provincial Government. Del Rosario also congratulated the province for its successful collection of RPT last 2011, sealing their success for two years in a row now.

Gov. Suarez was very pleased with the result of the Provincial Government’s tax collection campaign and said that it is a great honor, as Quezon is the only province in the country that has a strict program on the collection of RPT. He also added that, in the past, around Php 800 Million worth of taxes was left uncollected. Ever since he started his term, Gov. Suarez said that the concern had been on his priority list.

Gov. Suarez also thanked those who supported RPT collection, particularly the Department of Education – from which the youth of Quezon have much to benefit from.

Php 3 Million was given to the town of Sampaloc, Quezon as an addition to the said municipality’s Development Fund after it received recognition as the municipality with the highest amount of collected RPT. Tiaong, Quezon seconded Sampaloc, receiving Php 2 Million, while Mauban, Quezon trailed after the two and received Php 1 Million.

San Roque, Sampaloc, Quezon also received projects, this time amounting to Php 50,000.00, and Brgy.
