The Provincial Convergence Advisory Committee (PCAC) of Quezon Province held a meeting last October 11 at the Quezon Convention Center’s Audio Visual Room, Lucena City.

The said assembly discussed updates regarding projects instigated through the collective efforts of the Provincial Government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office and the National Government’s Department of Social Welfare and Development, particularly focusing on the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, also known as 4Ps, which aims to alleviate poverty in the ranks of the Filipino people.

Presentations were given during the meeting regarding KALAHI-CIDDS (Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services), SEA-K (Self Employment Assistance - Kaunlaran), Sustainable Livelihood Projects, latest population counts, specifically among those belonging to the category of indigenous people, and the expansion of member communities in Quezon so that more municipalities will be able to partake of the comprehensive programs created by the Provincial and National Government for the benefit of the people.

According to data gathered, Quezon remains to have the highest poverty incidence level among others in the CALABARZON area. But despite this, it is also the province with the most improvement and has biggest number of practical projects being received and implemented in the area. With the efficacy and proactivity of those projects and support from both national and local sectors, it won’t be long before Quezon finally attains its dream of a successful and secure future.

In attendance were some observers, Ana Angela Cayabyab and Katherine Valdez, from the Pantawid Pamilya National Project Management Office, as well as 9 Regional Greviance Officers from different parts of the country: Jehan Marohomsalic, Region XII; Santander Buctuain, Region XI; Miguel Angelo Gabor, Region X; Mark Atilano, Region IX; Resty Ragas Region IX; Johannah Lunor, Region VII; Amado Cariño, Region I; Daniel Allan Aromios, Region I.

According to the guests, the support given to the projects of DSWD by the Provincial Government of Quezon, through the leadership of Gov. David C. Suarez is truly commendable. They said that it would be a pleasure to work under 4Ps in the province because they could feel the genuine concern the Provincial Government has for its people as well as the belief it has in the efficacy of the projects being endorsed by DSWD. They also added that they were happy Quezon had a responsive approach in running its jurisdiction and providing for the needs of its citizenry.

Particularly lauded were the Serbisyong Suarez Health Coupons, which according to them is a novelty, and the management of Quezon Science High School which is sensitive to the needs of the students and is determined to mold them into innovative young leaders.

The Provincial Convergence Advisory Committee is composed of Quezon Gov. David C. Suarez who plays the role of honorary chairperson, Provincial Administrator Romulo M. Edaño, Jr., chairperson, and members in the persons of Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Ms. Sonia S. Leyson, Provincial Health Officer Dr. AgripinoTullas, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Engr. Irma Garde, Provincial Agriculturist Roberto D. Gajo, 1st District Board member Alona V.
