66 Sangguniang Kabataan members from the city of Tayabas gathered at Unisan, Quezon to formulate plans future projects that would benefit the youth and SK members of the city.

The Good Father of Quezon was invited as guest speaker in the event. As said by Gov. David “Jayjay” C. Suarez, this initiative by the SK members is welcome and greatly appreciated endeavor. Since they are youth aiding the youth, they have better knowledge of the concerns that should be addressed.

One of the main issues that the SK members want to tackle is the high rate of unemployment in the area. They wish to put up a way for the young people to be able to make a living in the Poblacion of Tayabas.

Gov. Suarez advised the attending members to pick what they believe is the right college course that would help them achieve success. He also encouraged young people to not give up their aspiration to study, just because of poverty, since programs like the Serbisyong Suarez Scholarship are available and was primarily made to address that problem in the first place.

Gov. Suarez added that he will invite all public colleges in the province to give proper information to enrollees to guide their course choices. He also said that he made an agreement with businesses planning to set up shop in the province that they should only take Quezonian employees.

The SK Federation of the city of Tayabas was granted by Gov. Suarez 50,000 pesos that would serve as the organization’s fund. The SK members were grateful for the donation, and through SK President Jurius J. Caseres, they thanked the Governor, as well as his wife, Quezon’s First Lady Anna Villaraza-Suarez – who is in charge of handling the Serbisyong Suarez Scholars.

From the 85% grade average required for students to avail of the scholarship, it was lowered to 80% to accommodate more interested youth. A recent count shows that a total of 6,725 students from all over Quezon are Serbisyong Suares Scholars.(QUEZON PIO)
