| Pentecost Sunday (A)/Receive the Holy Spirit |
| |
| |
Introduction |
| |
We love to celebrate especial occasions like mother’s day, anniversaries and birthday. And today we have a reason to celebrate. As the world celebrates mother’s day we also celebrate the “birthday” of our Mother Church. Christ established his Church through coming of the Holy Spirit. Today is the 2008th anniversary of our beloved Church having inaugurated on the same Pentecost. |

Background |
| |
-
The apostles were in a room with locked doors because they were afraid of the Jews. They were afraid because when they saw Jesus dying on the cross, they thought they were deceived. They followed the wrong Messiah. When Jesus appeared before them, and gave them his Peace. All their fears and doubts were gone. And they felt an unexplainable joy when they saw his hands and his side. Indeed He has risen!
-
Then Christ breathes on them and said “receive the Holy Spirit”. The word “to breathe” that is used is a translation from the original word “Ruah” meaning “air” or “wind.” It is the same word used during the time of creation, when Yahweh formed Adam from soil and “breathe” on him and he came into life. Unfortunately because of the fall, that life was lost. When Christ breathed to his apostles, he was giving back that same Life to his Church. And we enjoy this Life when we received the Holy Spirit when we were Baptized and in more perfect manner when we were Confirmed.
-
Unfortunately, grave sins can cause a certain kind of death to our spirit and all the graces there in. In order to preserve this “new life” with in us, Christ gave a great “weapon” to the Church, the “Sacrament of Confession.” He clearly stated, “whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained” Christ died on the Cross so that God can give us his mercy and forgiveness. We only need to open our hearts, say our sorry, and enjoy the Peace that is coming from within.

Reflection: |
|
| |
-
Peace and Forgiveness can not be separated and they must always come together. They are like the two faces of the same coin. Sometimes we can’t sleep because of different fears in life. Fears are the consequences of the past mistakes. Sometimes our conscience is calling us again, for the sins we did before. Whatever we did, as long as we already confessed them, we should forget them and start to move on to start our life all over again. You will have peace in your self when you forgive yourself! Christ already suffered for it on the Cross and sent His Spirit to give you peace. Please give yourself a chance to experience that peace. And how can you forgive others, if you can not even forgive your own self. So let go and forgive. And you will experience inner peace. You deserve it!
-
The Holy Spirit is the life giver. When Yahweh breathed on Adam and Eve they received life. Mothers are also known as life givers. They conceive in their womb a baby and they nurture him for nine month and she delivers him. If giving life is a Divine act, which is proper to God alone, then Mothers are given a very high privilege to participate in this very noble act of “giving of life.” We owe so much with our mothers because without life we are nothing.
-
Furthermore during Pentecost they are able to speak and understand different languages. Mothers have special instinct. She can read the signs of the times. She can understand the meanings of different body languages and signs that their children are trying to convey. And if Holy Spirit can enter closed doors, mothers can enter in the hearts of her children. When she feels that there is something wrong in one of the members of the family, she always try to check it out and it always come out to be true, Motherly instinct never fails.

Conclusion |
|
| |
You can not appreciate God’s loving forgiveness if you can not even see the beauty deep within you. If you had committed mistakes in the past and had already confessed them, please learn how to let go and forget then all. Start to unload yourself. Learn to forgive; a forgiveness that comes from “within.” |
